Breckenridge Ghost Tour – Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions may help make your Breckenridge Ghost Tour more enjoyable if you have all of the information you need.

FAQ

We think so…and after hearing some of the stories, you just might too.

Breckenridge has over 160 years of mining history, mysterious deaths, unexplained sightings, and buildings that have seen far more than most people ever will. Whether you believe in ghosts or think every creaky floorboard has a perfectly reasonable explanation, you’ll leave with plenty to think—and maybe a reason to glance over your shoulder on the walk back home or to your car.

Many of the stories shared during our tours are based on documented historical events, newspaper accounts, local folklore, eyewitness reports, and long-standing community legends. While we cannot guarantee paranormal activity, every story is rooted in Breckenridge’s rich history and presented with respect for both the historical record and local traditions.

We certainly hope so—it would make for incredible reviews.

We can’t promise a paranormal encounter, but guests have reported everything from mysterious photographs and unexplained cold spots to strange sounds and feelings that someone was standing right behind them. (Please don’t blame us if you suddenly believe your camera has captured something unusual.)

Breckenridge Ghost Guides’ Ghost Tours are about 75 to 90 minutes.

That’s just enough time to hear incredible stories, walk historic downtown Breckenridge, and discover that ghosts apparently don’t mind Colorado winters.

Not unless history scares you.

Our tours are more “goosebumps and fascinating stories” than “someone jumps out with a chainsaw.” You’ll hear eerie tales, mysterious legends, and a few stories that may have you sleeping with one eye open—but don’t expect haunted house theatrics.

The ghost tour take you through roughly one mile of historic Breckenridge, CO at a leisurely pace.

We stop often for stories and breaks to breathe so don’t worry—we’re not trying to recreate the Oregon Trail.

Absolutely.

Our stories are spooky enough to keep kids interested without sending them into years of therapy. We’d generally recommend ages 10 and older, although every child is different.  The only part that might not be family-friendly is the start and end time:(

Breckoning meets in historic downtown Breckenridge near the stairs on the south side of the Summit County Clerk & Recorder’s Office at 208 Lincoln Ave., Breckenridge, CO, just one block east of Main Street.

Look for your Breckenridge Ghost Guides guide near the stairs—or anyone standing around looking suspiciously interested in dead people.

Dress for mountain weather.

Comfortable shoes are a must, and layers are your best friend. This is Breckenridge—it’s entirely possible to experience sunshine, wind, rain/snow, and existential dread all in the same hour.

Yes!

Ghosts don’t migrate south for the winter.

In fact, snowy evenings make historic Breckenridge even more atmospheric. Just bundle up and let the spirits do the chilling.

Not at all.

Some of our favorite guests are skeptics. They come for the history, stay for the stories, and occasionally leave wondering why their photo suddenly has an extra “person” in it.

Without giving away all our secrets, you’ll visit several of downtown Breckenridge’s most legendary locations.

Historic hotels, mining sites, museums, and buildings with stories that refuse to stay buried all make appearances. Every stop has its own fascinating history—and maybe a lingering resident or two.

Of course – leashed, well-behaved dogs are always welcome on public tours.

If your dog starts barking at absolutely nothing…please let the guide know.  Dogs experience the presence of other beings differently than humans, so they might go home more scared than the rest of your group.

Other animals (leashed or not) are not welcome on the tour.

Then you might get a little wet.  Luckily, the dry high-altitude environment means things dry quickly.

Unless the weather becomes genuinely dangerous (lightning, extremely unsafe temperatures, etc), the ghosts still show up for work—and so do we.

Absolutely!

Many guests enjoy looking through their photos afterward. Most discover beautiful historic buildings.

A few discover…something else.

If you spot anything mysterious or out of the ordinary in your photo, please make sure to share it with us or tag us on socials.

Anyone can tell ghost stories.

We combine authentic history, professional storytelling, local legends, humor, and interactive experiences to create something that’s entertaining whether you’re a lifelong paranormal enthusiast or someone who just wandered over after dinner looking for something fun to do.

Think of it as equal parts history lesson, ghost story, walking tour, and campfire storytelling—with significantly better scenery.

Breckenridge Ghost Guides offers an immersive walking ghost tour that combines authentic local history, documented legends, paranormal stories, and interactive storytelling. Rather than simply recounting ghost stories, our guides bring Breckenridge’s mining past to life through historical research, engaging performances, and unique tour experiences. Every tour explores some of the town’s most haunted locations while sharing the fascinating history behind each stop.

We may be a little biased…

But if you’re looking for something that’s different from another brewery, another shopping trip, or another evening in your hotel room, our ghost tour offers a memorable way to experience downtown after dark.

Besides, ghosts have terrible daytime availability.

Absolutely.

Whether you’re planning a corporate outing, bachelor or bachelorette party, family reunion, birthday celebration, or just want all the ghosts to yourselves, we’d love to host your group.

The ghosts haven’t complained about private bookings yet.
